León Celebrates 150 Years Of The Procession Of The “Cristo De La Reseña” Of The San Felipe Church.

This past Sunday 2th of April the Catholic Church of the city of Leon celebrated the 150 years of the Procession of the Consecrated image of the Lord of the Consolation of the Review or better known as “Cristo de la Reseña” of the San Felipe parish.

This tradition goes back to the year 1867 in which an outbreak of cholera ravaged the city of León, especially the San Felipe neighborhood.  Of this the inhabitants promised to continually bring out the image of Christ of the Review on the streets of the colonial city every holy Mondays in procession.

The Solemn Consecration of Our Lord of Consolation of the Review was celebrated by Monsignor Bosco Vivas Robelo, Bishop of the Diocese of Leon and Chinandega.

The great procession left from its sanctuary at 6p.m being accompanied by thousands of Catholic devotes who with great faith and devotion participated in the tour true the main streets of the city of Leon until its entrance –back to the sanctuary- at 11:20 p.m.

This celebration is one of the main events of the Holy Week in León city, is related to the promise made by Monsignor Gordiano Carranza to save the people of Leon from the plague of cholera, which took many lives away in 1867. This Holy Monday in the morning the San Felipe parish will celebrate this big and important event. The Image that they use in the procession was brought from Guatemala and it’s known as the "Lord of the Review".

The Lord of the Review is an impressive image, the gesture of his hand stopping the plague of cholera, which struck Nicaragua in 1867, astound one when contemplating it.
